As a teenager, the rising population of teenage pregnancy is already very alarming. Filipinos are known for its valued moral values but is now diminishing through too much freedom on engaging sexual activities at an early age or premarital sex to be exact. Teen pregnancies should be avoided or else teens will suffer various risks like malnutrition, inadequate prenatal care, abortion, fetal deaths, and acquiring cervical cancer to name a few. Teens are greatly influenced by the people around them particularly the parents who gives direct guidance to their children, school who gives proper information regarding sex educati0n, and lastly, the government who supplies and creates the appropriate rules and regulations about minimizing the continual rising of teenage pregnancy. This status quo adds up to the deterioration of the country as well as the poverty that continues to strike the Filipino people everyday.
According to the World Bank, the Philippines is one of the top ten countries where teenage mothers are rapidly making its way to the top problem of the country which was quantified by the WB as 3.6 million. Do you know that 7 out of 10 women who are pregnant are teenagers according to the http://www.chanelnewsasia.com/stories/southeastasia/view/4? This alarms most women organizations by the steady increase of its number. A lot of alternatives are being brought up to the government with one vision of avoiding teens in being hooked up to sexual activities. But the question that we often ask is - Is it strongly implemented and observed in the society nowadays? The Church has always been the front liners for the movement to be done to save the teenagers from such a grievous act. According to the Church, they definitely oppose to one of the law that was passed and approved to the Senate which was the the Reproductive Health Bill that allows couples to use contraceptives and condoms.

"Unfortunately, even sexuality education is being challenged and opposed by conservative forces in the Philippines. Whether we like it or not, whether parents approve it or not, the young people are getting all source of information from the Internet, from their peers, etc...", Dr. Junice Melgar said which was posted in the internet that I have read in this website, http://womensphere.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/teenage-pregnancy-on-the-rise-in philippines/. There might be a lot of opposing sides with different opinions about how to avoid the rising number of teenage pregnancies. But in the end, it depends on us on what side we'll take, provided with just criticisms and open-minded opinions.
